About the Author

As the Founder and President of the Tener Consulting Group, LLC, Dr. Tener Goodwin Veenema, is a nationally recognized speaker, author and consultant to health and human service organizations nationwide. With over twenty eight years of experience in Emergency Health Services and Health Care Systems Planning, Dr. Veenema is a thought leader in the field and works tirelessly to enhance the safety of the health care environment for nurses and other responders reporting to disasters and large-scale public health emergencies.
Nationally recognized as a subject matter expert, Dr. Veenema has served as a consultant to hospitals, universities, the American Red Cross, private corporations, and state and federal government. Dr. Veenema is currently serving as subject matter expert consultant to the National Commission on Children and Disasters. Her expertise in disaster and emergency content and curriculum development is extensive, and her ReadyRN Curriculum is currently used by the American Red Cross to prepare their nurses and disaster health services volunteers.
Dr. Veenema is a nationally Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and was recognized as a distinguished practitioner by her election into the National Academies of Practice in 2004. She was also selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow (2004-2007) and as Senior Fellow in Nursing Policy & Philanthropy at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and at the Center for State Health Policy at Rutgers University (2008-2009). Dr. Veenema serves on the editorial board for the AMA sponsored Journal of Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness and Jane’s Handbook for Disaster Preparedness. In November 2009 Dr. Veenema will be presenting the ReadyRN Clinical Decision Support Software at the APHA annual conference in Philadelphia.
Dr. Veenema will be inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing on November 7th, 2009.
